    #reverb10 December 26 – Soul Food

What did you eat this year that you will never forget? What went into your mouth & touched your soul?

I believe that good food brings people together.  Good food is also one of the five things in my recipe to enjoying life.

I’ve eaten at a few places this year, but food that I will never forget gives me that “Oh my God!” reaction.  Three things came to mind when I thought of this #reverb10 question.

The first was the Bacon Melt and Tomato Soup from the Melt food truck.  With gruyere cheese, hobbs bacon, and an apple sage jam on wheat you can’t say this is just a grilled cheese sandwich.  Dipped in one of the best tomato soups I’ve ever had and you’ll be in Melt heaven!

I love a good pizza and next up is the Margherita from JJ Dolan’s.  JJ Dolan’s got some of the best pizzas on Oahu.  If you are a pizza purist, then a true test of a good pizza place is their Margherita.  The Margherita at JJ Dolan’s did not disappoint!  It has the perfect combination of mozzarella, tomato, basil.  A definite, “OMG” food experience!

Finally, there was the Onaga Sashimi Over Chiso Leaf from Doraku in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.  Early this year I visited Chef Hideo Yoshimoto at Doraku with my friends from @sakeshop for an Omakase adventure.  If you didn’t catch my post on it, you can find it here at Colin800.  The Onaga Sashimi was definitely my favorite.  Chef Hideo likes to use different combinations of tastes and textures in his dishes.  This particular dish blew me away as the tastes changed as you ate it!

So those are the dishes that I ate this year that I will never forget.  They were great dishes, but more importantly you know that the people who made them but a lot of time, care, and love into making them.  That’s when you know good food becomes food for the soul.

Kind of like my Uncle’s Oxtail Stew.  He spends hours preparing and making it.  Everything is done carefully with patience and by taste. Yes, its comfort food but you just walk away with a sense of happiness and contentment.  That’s food for the soul and just part of my recipe for enjoying life!

    Have good food.

    Have good drink.

    Have good friends.

    Have good times.

    And enjoy the moment.

I am a Buddhist who likes sports especially the Cowboys, Dodgers, Phillies, and Longhorns. I like good food and good sake. Of course I am always looking for that occasional inspiration, I am a Buddhist remember! Why am I doing this? I guess its just a social experiment. An attempt to share and communicate with others in a positive way. So if "Its cool like dat, its Col like dat!"
