Joy of Sake Honolulu - 2010

So I had the opportunity to go to the Joy of Sake-Honolulu (joyofsake.com) this past Thursday with the @meetoworld gang.  I have been to past Joy of Sakes and this was no different.  In fact it was even more fun with the @meetoworld gang!  Good sake and good food!

First let me tell you about the food!  These were the participating restaurants:

    Chai's Island Bistro

    www.chaisislandbistro.com

Featured Dish: Shrimp Ceviche with Spicy Lime Vinagrette on English Cucumber with Tobiko, Chinese Parsley, Red Jalapeno and Roasted Peanuts

    Doraku

    www.dorakusushi.com

Featured Dish: Seared Tuna with Asian Salsa

    Gyotaku

    www.gyotakuhawaii.com

Featured Dish: Garlic and Shichimi-Seared Salmon with Ponzu Sauce and Asian Slaw

    Hakkei

    www.hakkei-honolulu.com

Featured Dish: Multigrain Riceball Topped with Stewed Ginger Pork

    Lewers Lounge (Halekulani)

    www.halekulani.com

Featured Dish: Pork Belly with Tamarind Jus

    Hoku's

    www.kahalaresort.com/dining/hoku.cfm

    Featured Dishes:
Buratta & "WOW Farms" Heirloom Tomatoes Pesto & Lehua Honey Balsamic Reduction
Hoku's Plantation "Chop Salad" Kula Summer Greens and Plantation Fresh Vegetables, Pipikaula & Hawaiian Feta Cheese, Papaya Seed Vinaigrette
Shaved Big Island Hearts of Palm with Ahi and Hamachi, Orange and Grapefruit Segments, Yuzu-Orange Vinaigrette

    Nobu Waikiki

    www.noburestaurants.com/waikiki

    Featured Dish: Nobu's Ahi Poke

    The Joy of Sake Izakaya
presented by Marians Island Wide Catering

Featured Dish: Ahi & Tomatillo Tartare in Cucumber Cups

    Town
    www.townkaimuki.com

Featured Dish: Pork Bocadillos with Green Papaya and Pickled Mustard Seeds

    Yuzen

Featured Dish: Wild Alaskan King Salmon and Spicy Danshaku Potato Mousse with Salad Greens and Wafu Dressing

    Zenshu

Featured Dish: Ahi Meatloaf with Sauteed Hamakua Mushrooms and Kabayaki Drizzle

    Cakeworks

Featured Dish: Coconut Dessert Sushi with Ume Sauce

I didn't get a chance to try all the dishes but my favorites were the shrimp ceviche from Chai's and the pork belly from Lewers Lounge.  You also gotta try the ahi meatloaf from Zenshu!

Now let's get to the good stuff – the sake!  I spent most of my time trying the sakes that you can't get here in the United States.  My thinking is you never know you when you are going to get the opportunity to try these sakes.  However, there were some sakes I found that were available here and which I am definitely looking forward to trying again.  If you are listening @sakeshop here is my list:

    Masumi "Okuden" Kantsukuri

    Masumi Yamahai Ginjo

    Ninkiichi Gold Ninki Junmai Daiginjo

    Hoyo "Kura No Hana"

All in all another awesome night of great sake!  Be sure to check out the @meetoworld gang too!  I'm sure they will be blogging about it!

I am a Buddhist who likes sports especially the Cowboys, Dodgers, Phillies, and Longhorns. I like good food and good sake. Of course I am always looking for that occasional inspiration, I am a Buddhist remember! Why am I doing this? I guess its just a social experiment. An attempt to share and communicate with others in a positive way. So if "Its cool like dat, its Col like dat!"
